Ever wonder why at certain times of the day or night there is pre-teens or teens wondering the streets of Whitehorse? I used to wonder that very question, then I found out they were homeless. Some by their choosing and some parents just kicked them out for not measuring up to their hypocritical standards.
Some refused to stay in school so they get shoved onto the street with no skills and the parents thinks this will make him realize his/her mistakes and maybe help them grow up. This is absolute bs .
Some maybe have slipped into a bad group, got hooked on drugs and the parents can't cope with it so again another kid goes on the street.
There are so many reasons as how these kids get on the streets to survive as best they can but I really want to know just when did kids become disposables?
How can these parents sleep knowing their kid is out there and now it's winter. I know that some lucky ones sofa surf.
Others are not so lucky ,I have heard stories of kids even sleeping in dumpsters. It protects them from the wind but not the cold but still any dumpster has a lid and it's home for them for the night . If they are lucky they can multi-layer their clothing(what little they have)or get a hold of a blanket. This gives little warmth but for how long?.
Youth shelters take in 17 years and up but what about those younger? Do these places care ? Do you?
It makes me sick at heart to know Whitehorse has children out in the cold trying to survive .
They are children of all ages and race .The YTG should do something about this. There should be no politics ,just humanitarian funds to help these kids.
I guess we have alot of Yuppie parents that thinks everything (even their kids) are disposibles.
We have a very very bad parental problem when kids are on the street
Nothing will ever justify this

It is heart breaking to know that for the reasons you have noted, and many more, there are children homeless in our country. I left home fairly young myself. So I can understand the reasons that drive kids to leave, but I cannot understand how parents can blithely turn their backs. We have to do better as a society then to allow this. Thanks for posting to remind us.
You are very welcome
